How To Get Happy: 3 Ways
Look At Videos or Pictures of Happy Times and Loved Ones
This should always be your first choice when trying to get happy. It works 99% of the time and was my go to option when I was depressed and down in the dumps years ago. I remember sitting at my desk at work and just being miserable. I didn’t want to be there and really didn’t want to do anything.
I was checking my phone one day to see if a friend had played their turn on Words With Friends and when they didn’t, I had to find something else to do. I checked out my photos and in there was a video of my niece. She was just learning to talk at the time, so my sister would ask her to say certain words, mainly her name, her parents names, etc.
When they got to their pets, it happened. Their one cat is named Abraham. When my niece repeated “Abraham” she could only say “ham”. My sister said the cats name once more and my niece again said “ham”. I laughed so hard I almost cried. From that day forward, I would watch that video every time I needed a pick-me-up and it worked every time. It never got old.
So, find some videos or pictures that make you happy and keep them in a place where you can access them easily. Use them to help you improve your mood. It’s amazing how great they work at achieving this!
When you compliment others, you feel better about yourself. It’s the same idea with volunteering. You are doing good to help out others, but you get something in return – that warm fuzzy feeling inside. So, make it a point to start complimenting people. You don’t need to go crazy and compliment every person you see, but when an opportunity arises and you feel the urge to compliment, do so. You could very well make their day. For all you know, they could be feeling in the dumps as well and your compliment is what improves their mood and helps them to get happy.
As an added bonus to complimenting others, you might be the beneficiary of a compliment back. Just as your compliment helped someone else get to a better mood, their compliment could do the same for you.
Say An Affirmation Each Morning
In a previous post I talked about how important it is to start your day off right. Whatever mood you start off with is the mood that will stick with you for the rest of the day. It will be hard to shake, so why not start off in a great mood? In fact, this point is so important, it is part of my 30 days to positive thinking course.
The main key for you though is to say a daily affirmation that is based on fact. You could say how happy you are, but if you aren’t happy, it will be hard for you to believe it (or trick yourself into believing this) at least at first. So you need to start out small and base your affirmations on fact.
To do this, say an affirmation, but back it up. Don’t say “I am so happy today” but instead say “I am so happy today because it is finally warm outside”. After the cold winter we just had, I think everyone can say this affirmation and mean it!
Another example would be to say “I have a great job because I get to have a flexible work schedule”. Really, the world is your oyster as they say, just make sure the affirmation is based on truth.
When we are in a bad mood, we all want to know how to get happy instantly. By using the 3 tips above, you can achieve just that – instant happiness.
