We all have bad days now and then. We might oversleep and are late for an appointment, setting the rest of the day to always be catching up. It’s easy to let the negative things of the day take hold of our thoughts and run with them. But the sooner you break free and change your thought pattern, the quicker you can change the day around and even possibly turn it around to a great day!
How To Survive A Bad Day #1: The Past Doesn’t Equal The Future
Just because the day started off badly, doesn’t mean it has to continue. The future is unwritten – we make of it what we want. If we choose to constantly focus on the negative, then we will bring negative things into our lives. But if we change our thoughts and begin to focus on the positive, we can bring positive things into our lives. Make an effort to remember that just because your day started off bad it doesn’t have to stay bad.
How To Survive A Bad Day #2: Do Something Fun
When we think negative thoughts, our mood becomes sour. Keep thinking negative thoughts and our mood gets worse and worse. The same thing applies if we are in a bad mood – we will start thinking negative thoughts. If you don’t change your thinking to positive thoughts, then change your mood to a positive one. Laugh, run, meditate, do anything that makes you feel better and lifts your spirits.
A few years ago when I was going through a tough breakup, I would be bombarded with negative thoughts. Nothing I could do seemed to make me feel better. Then one day, I drove over to the local park and went for a run. The run started out with me thinking negative thoughts, but eventually they faded away. By the time I was finished with my run, I felt like a new person. I suddenly became motivated to do things instead of just lying around feeling sorry for myself. I encourage you to find something that will improve your mood as it may very well improve your thoughts too.
How To Survive A Bad Day #3: Focus on the Positive
No matter how bad my day is, before I go to bed, I thank the universe for all of the good things that happened to me that day. Depending on how bad the day way, it might take me a minute to think of things, but I am always able to. It could be something as simple as hitting that green light that is always red for what seems like forever.
I’ve found that the more I find little things that are positive, the easier and easier it gets to identify them. I even notice them now in the moment. It might sound corny, but I credit my ability of find the positive side of any situation with why everything works out for me in the end.
How To Survive A Bad Day #4: Dream
Start believing and expecting that great things are coming your way. When we dream about things, we instantly get ourselves into a better mood and a better place mentally. I like to visualize my goals and dreams as doing so gets me most excited. When I can have a complete connection with my dreams and goals, I find myself attacking them with enthusiasm more than I otherwise would.
Bad days are always going to happen to us. How to survive a bad day is just a matter of choice if we will let it continue or not. By changing your thoughts and mood to a positive one, you can stop your bad day in its tracks and turn it around into a great day!
