People love to laugh. I am always instantly comfortable around people who honestly enjoy conversation, and laugh happily at the witticisms of their friends. Sometimes, we have a tendency to create humor out of the faults of ourselves or of our friends. An easy fallback in conversation can be to poke fun at each others faults, however big or small they may be.
Though it is important not to take our own problems too seriously, we can never know how what we think of as humor might affect the people around us. We may be able to recognize our own faults through humor and laughter, but we can never know if the people around us handle their insecurities in the same way. We are all always working on ways to love ourselves and find confidence, and so we should work together not to undercut the personal growth of others!
Using Your Laughter
There is a little bit of truth behind every “just kidding”. I know I love to amuse my friends, and their appreciation of my company is another source of positive energy that helps me throughout the day. That’s why today I’d like to try not to tease the people around me, but to earnestly appreciate them, focusing on the good qualities of the people with whom I surround myself.
Humor is a delicate topic, and as much as I love making people laugh, I should be able to style my humor style to make people feel good about themselves (and never the opposite)!
Take a Lesson From Your Friends!
One of my favorite things about my best friend is that she has an amazing, loud, infectious laugh, and she uses it often! She lets her happiness show through so that everyone around her can share it. She makes people feel appreciated and loved, and you can always tell that she likes being around you. I would like to take a lesson from my friend, and use laughter to elevate the mood of the people around me.
I know I always feel physically rejuvenated with laughter, and if my own laughter can be as infectious and blissful as my friend’s, I can perhaps inspire the same kind of feelings in other people!
What Goes Around…
It’s well known that people prefer spending time with happy people, and I’ve found that happiness creates a very tangible domino effect, which if it keeps going, can even find its way back to you! Surrounding yourself with happy people will in turn transfer their emotions on to you. (And if they have a great laugh, that’s just a bonus!)
I’ve even read somewhere that just physically smiling, even if it’s for no reason at all, can inflate your mood. Remembering the things that actually make you smile, paired with the action itself, can help to boost up your day. My advice is to latch onto people in good moods and spread the love and good feelings around! You never know when the pure happiness will make its way back around to you!
