No matter the situation, it is important to stay positive. The minute you allow negative thoughts to take root in your mind, you are fighting an uphill battle. This post will walk you through how to have positive thoughts, no matter the situation.
My Lost Baggage Story
A few weekends ago, I traveled out of the country to get married. The resort where we were staying and getting married at had a lot of options for wedding themes, but not surprisingly, they all cost money. My wife and I decided it would be better to bring a bunch of the decorations along with us to save money. This lead to us checking 4 suitcases for the flights. Everything was fine until the return trip when one of the bags went missing.
I headed over to the lost baggage center where they scanned the tag I received when I checked the bags. The employee told me the bag was on the next flight in, arriving in about 20 minutes. No worries I thought and headed back to where those bags would be coming out.
When all of the bags were loaded onto that baggage claim belt, my bag was nowhere to be found. I headed over to a different baggage claim center (I had to go to another terminal for the incoming flight that supposedly had my bag) where I was told that my bag was scanned in, but wasn’t able to be found.
What this basically means is that my bag is somewhere in the airport. Instead of waiting for it to be found, I filled out a baggage claim form and my bag would be delivered to me within 24 hours. As I was heading out to the car to return home, I decided to run back over to the original baggage claim center, since that one was the larger of the two. I was thinking that maybe my bag showed up over there.
As I walked to the center, I noticed a lone bag sitting on an empty, non-running baggage claim belt. As I approached, I remained calm since a black suitcase is fairly common. To my surprise, the bag laying there was mine! I picked it up and canceled the baggage claim form.
The entire time while my bag was missing, I stayed positive. This is the first key for how to have positive thoughts: you have to stay positive from the start. Bad things are going to happen. They happen to everyone. The key is to remain positive and keep thinking positive throughout the situation.
Trying to Fall Asleep
Sunday night is another example for how to have positive thoughts. My wife couldn’t fall asleep. I think it was due to the fact that we stayed up late every night during the long holiday weekend. As she lay down to sleep, she couldn’t sleep. She began to get upset and worried about how if she doesn’t fall asleep, Monday at work is going to be hell. She’ll be exhausted and with all of the meetings she has, she won’t be her best.
She decided to get up and read a book for a few minutes to try to calm her mind. After about 15 minutes of reading, she lay back down for sleep and quickly fell asleep.
This is the second key for how to have positive thoughts: in the event negative thoughts do enter your mind, you need to work quickly to change your thought process. As I mentioned earlier, we all have bad things happen in our lives and we all think negative thoughts from time to time. But you have to learn to change your thought process quickly once negative thoughts enter your mind.
How to Have Positive Thoughts: A Rundown
In order to have positive thoughts, you need to train your mind to always be looking for the positives in life and be grateful for all of the great things that happen in your life. You have to take note of all of the good things in your life, no matter how small they seem. This will teach you to always be on the lookout for the good.
When you are always looking for the good, you will be training your mind to focus more on the positive than the negative. When the negative thoughts do enter your mind, having that positive outlook in life will help you to more quickly overcome those negative thoughts.
